Neighborhood Groups

"How inexhaustible are the riches that open up for those who by God’s will are privileged to live in the daily fellowship of life with other Christians!

It is grace, nothing but grace, that we are allowed to live in community with Christian brethren."

-Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together

A Great and Glad Mission

One meaningful way we seek to bring the gospel home to each of our hearts and out into the world is by meeting in each other's homes throughout the week, throughout the city, through what we call Neighborhood Groups.

Resurrection's mission is to make disciples and multiply churches in neighborhoods near and in nations far for the glory of God and the ever-increasing enjoyment of his people in him (Matthew 28:18-20). And one avenue to help us fulfill that mission is through Neighborhood Groups. The goal of these groups is threefold, each leading to the other, and each an extension of what we aim to do during Sunday worship:

(1) to fuel our own enjoyment of and delight in God in community with other Christians (discipleship);

(2) to share the glad news of Jesus with our neighbors through word and witness that they too might encounter, embrace, and enjoy him forever (make disciples); and, as more joy-filled disciples of Jesus are made,

(3) to establish new churches near and far that exist to see God glorified in the gladness of his people in him (multiply churches).

With this goal in mind, Neighborhood Groups will gather weekly throughout the year (most following the school calendar) to form community around prayer and studying the Scriptures (Acts 2:42), and finding ways to engage our neighbors with the gospel, including inviting them into our homes (Romans 12:13).

In practice, each group has freedom to structure their gatherings depending on the needs and/or desires of the group (some may share a meal together, others will provide snacks; some will meet in the morning, others at night; some will have kids meet in the same home as adults, others will have them meet in another member's home), but the goal for each is the same: to encourage one another in the gospel (Hebrews 3:12-14) and to engage our neighbors with the gospel for their eternal good and God's glory (Matthew 5:16) as the glad news of Jesus advances, starting in each neighborhood of Austin and extending to the nations (Acts 1:8).

This is why Neighborhood Groups exist. Take part in this great and glad mission by joining one.
